Solar PV Project (30MW) in Sri Lanka

Solar Irradiance Bosnia-Herzegovina

The Project

In a joint venture, Green Rhino Energy is developing a 30MW solar park in Sri Lanka.

The site is set in the Hambantota region in the south of the island, with an average annual irradiation of around 2,000kWh/m2, more than double than locations in Germany.

Why Sri Lanka?

Sri Lanka is engaging in large-scale reconstruction and development projects following the end of the 26-year conflict, including increasing electricity access and rebuilding its road and rail network. Renewable energy projects are particularly attractive since Sri Lanka is currently heavily spending on importing fossil fuels and the country enjoys high solar irradiation. According to Sri Lanka's energy minister Patali Champika Ranawaka, "energy is the life blood of the country since no development activities can be carried out without energy". The solar park project has therefore socio-economic as well as climate change benefits.
